The aim of the postgraduate and postdoctoral education at H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv

National Pedagogical University is to ensure and create the conditions for public life-long learning, pedagogical and research professional development. The Department of Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Studies of H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University organises, plans and supports educational and research PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) and DSc (Doctor of Sciences) degree programmes, supervises and attests highly skilled and qualified educationalists.

In the history of the university an analogue of today’s postgraduate studies was first mentioned in 1916. At that time, the most prominent graduates of Kharkiv Higher Courses for Women were registered with different departments for professor title training. In 1936, the Department of Postgraduate Studies was established at the pedagogical institute for two special fields.

Currently, 17 postdoctoral fellows and 467 postgraduates (including 63 foreign citizens) are studying at H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University according to the curricula in 10 special fields. They are taught by 87 Doctors of Sciences and 68 Doctors of Philosophy (Candidates of Sciences) from 42 departments of the university. The scientific advisors of postgraduate and postdoctoral fellows include 53 Candidates of Sciences and 83 Doctors of Sciences.
